3 are beautiful 65' sailing catamarans.
Premium

Kaanapali's
longest and best-featured snorkel trip ... this tour
includes a continental breakfast, BBQ lunch with hamburgers,
hot dogs, and grilled chicken breasts, assorted cheeses,
chips, tropical fruit platter, pasta salad, homemade potato
salad, gourmet chocolate chip cookies and a full open bar
including beer, wine, mai tais, etc after snokeling. Snorkel
gear is included; destinations include Honolua Bay, Lanai, or
Oluwalu. The captain chooses the destination based upon the
best snorkeling visibility and ocean conditions. This tour is
from 9:30am to 2:30pm daily except for Tuesdays.
4
Hour Snorkel - Teralani III
Teralani
also offers a slightly shorter snorkel tour for late risers
... this trip operates from 11:00am to 3:00pm every day except
Thursdays. The 4 hour tour includes a make-your-own-sandwich
deli lunch, open bar, and snorkel gear.

 |
NCL
cruise ship passengers who are docking in Kahului
are able to do the 4 hour tour on day 1 or the 5 hour
tour on day 2. A rental car would be required as
the drive to the west side takes an hour. Lahaina
cruise ship passengers are able to do either of
these cruises
if your tender arrives early enough; call us with any
questions. A short cab ride from downtown Lahaina to
Kaanapali is required. |

the crew of Kaanapali's premier sailing catamaran the Kapalua
Kai for a day of sailing and snorkeling at Honolua Bay Marine
Preserve or one of Maui's other snorkel destinations! The
Kapalua Kai leaves right from Kaanapali Beach which makes it a
great choice for those staying at one of the Kaanapali Hotels
... just walk out of your room and get on the boat. The
Kapalua Kai picnic snorkel departs daily at 10am for a 4.5 hour
tour. This boat is beautiful and is designed with your comfort
in mind; with an airy inside shaded cabin, a spacious lounging
area on the cabin top, and full body sized cushions on the
netted trampolines. Kick back, relax, and enjoy the scenery of
the beautiful Valley Isle en route to their primary snorkel
destination; Honolua Bay... a marine preserve teeming with
colorful reef fish and green sea turtles and offering views of
some of Hawaii's best coral formations. When winter swells
make Honolua Bay a better surfing destination than snorkeling
destination, they head toward West Maui's south coast. Your
tour includes snorkel gear, a gourmet deli lunch, and a
premium open bar with the crew providing an on-deck cocktail
service. Scuba diving is available as an on-board option for
an additional cost of $55 for certified divers and $65 for
introductory divers. Non-snorkelers will enjoy the glass
bottom window that gives them glimpses of the reef as
well. Just
when you thought the day couldn't get any better, the Kapalua
Kai's crew hoists the sails for the journey home. Maui's
consistent trade winds enable them to sail approximately 90%
of the trips, and you'll really enjoy the relaxing calm of the
sound of the catamaran's hulls cutting through the water with
the engines off and the sails filled with wind. It will make
you forget all about your job (at least until you return to
shore and check your voicemail).

NCL
cruise ship passengers are able do the Kapalua Kai
picnic snorkel on their
second day in port in
Kahului but it requires a drive of over an hour to
Kaanapali Beach. We can
arrange a rental car for you for $39 per day. For rental
cars with cruise ship shuttle pick-up see our rental
car page.
Lahaina
cruise ship passengers can do this tour on their first
or second day in
port and it requires a 10 minute cab ride from Lahaina
Harbor to
Kaanapali Beach. |

For a romantic sunset sail that departs
right from Kaanapali Beach, enjoy an evening of true sailing
and gourmet appetizers aboard the Kapalua Kai. As the
sun sets between the islands of Molokai and Lanai it typically
paints the West Maui Mountains with a warm rich glow that can
only be fully appreciated from off-shore. Rainbows are common.
They strive to present the best and take great pride in
offering an extensive open bar and first rate food. The crew
provide on-deck cocktail service so that guests can relax,
sunbathe, whale watch or capture that perfect sunset photo,
all without ever leaving their cushioned seat. The pupus
(appetizers) are catered by "Maui Flavors Catering" and include
meatballs with Hawaiian plum BBQ sauce, teriyaki glazed
chicken, antipasto platter with Maui onion cream cheese dip,
tortilla chips with salsa and bean dip, Hawaiian sweet rolls,
and pineapple spears. The premium open bar on board this
vessel is one of the best Hawaii. During winter months there
is the added bonus of humpback whale sightings!

Tips
Kapalua
Kai is a beautiful sailboat that is beautifully maintained and
offers a quality premium snorkeling experience on Maui's west
side. Capacity on this boat is 49, which is less than half of
the people you'll find on most of the Molokini snorkel tours.
People also appreciate the 9:30am check-in time and 10:00am
departure ... this is a good choice for people who don't want
to get up at 6am every day on their vacation.
In
the wintertime Honolua Bay isn't available as a snorkel
destination ... winter swells make Honolua Bay a surfer's
paradise but those waves make snorkeling impossible. The water
becomes murky and you can't see a thing. In the wintertime
this boat's destination is the south shore of the West Maui
Mountains ... the added bonus during this time of year is the
numerous whale sightings on the way.
This
boat also offers our favorite Maui sunset sail. We prefer this
boat's cocktail cruise (which features lots of appetizers ...
almost enough to serve as dinner) over the sit down dinner
cruises that feel more crowded and don't measure up in terms
of quality. Do yourself a favor and get out on this boat at
least once during your Maui vacation.
