If you are looking for a
laid-back Hawaiian vacation, Kauai offers tranquility and beauty unmatched
by any other island. World class resorts and outstanding golf
courses are set in some of the most lush tropical environments you could
ever hope to find!
|
|
| The scenic overlook of
Kalalau Valley, the only gimpse of the Na Pali coastline from a road. This
is one of the most recognizable and photographed spots in Hawaii. |
 |
| Even though the summit of
Mt. Waiale'ale is the wettest spot on the face of the earth, a few miles
away in the Waimea Canyon it is much more arid, reminiscent of the
southwestern USA desert. It is obvious from this photo why Waimea Canyon
is known as "the Grand Canyon of the Pacific." |
 |
| Polihale State Park, just
north of Barking Sands beach on the extreme southwestern edge of Kauai is
dry and hot. Camping is available here by permit ... bring lots of water.
The view looking up the Na Pali coastline is striking, but the ocean
here is often dangerous ... use extreme caution if you enter the water at
this beach! |
 |
| The "Spounting
Horn" at Poipu on Kauai's south shore is a great example of a
blowhole. Located on an ancient lava bench, waves fill a cave with water,
and a hole in the roof of the cave shoots water up into the air like a
geyser. This blowhole is not only amazing to watch ... it makes a
whooshing roar that vibrates your chest if you dare get close to the vent. |

|
| Recognize this waterfall?
How about a hint? "De plane! De plane!" This is Waimea Falls,
used in the TV series "Fantasy Island." An overlook on the south
side offers a good profile view, but to really get a good look, you have
to take a helicopter tour of the island. I can't
imagine spending thousands of dollars traveling to Kauai on vacation and
not getting to see it from the air! |
 |
| Haena Beach is located
beyond Princeville on the north shore of Kauai, at the very end of the
road. This is the place where the Na Pali Coast Trail begins. There is
excellent snorkeling here when ocean conditions permit. |
 |
| Another
famous waterfall ... this one was featured in "Jurassic
Park." No there is no helicopter landing pad next to it ...
that was added by special effects wizards. But a helicopter is the
only way to really see and experience the incredible beauty Kauai
has to offer. |
 |
| One final
piece of advice for your visit to Kauai ... rent a jeep! There are
lots of great dirt roads to explore, especially in the Waimea Canyon
area and in the arboretum west of Lihue. Just bring it back clean!
As you can see, finding a stream to wash off the dirt isn't hard! |
